Obituary of Edward Francis Duffy

Edward Francis Duffy, 81, a longtime Darien resident, passed away at his home on Friday, April 6, 2018 after a long battle with Nasopharyngeal Cancer. Ed was born as a first generation American on September 16, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY. His parents were Edward McPartland Duffy, a native of Scotland, and Anna Flynn, a native of Ireland. Ed moved to Darien in 1942 and went to Royal School. He graduated from Darien High School as a member of the class of 1954 where he played varsity basketball. In his youth, Ed worked in hardware at the Tool Box and Knobel Brothers before joining his Uncles in their contracting business. Ed attended the University of Connecticut before joining the Airforce in 1958. He served on active duty for 2 years and in the Reserve Forces for 5 years. He married Emily Ruth Grant Duffy in 1962, and they had 3 boys who also grew up in Darien and graduated from DHS. Ed formed Roth and Duffy contracting in 1970, a business which he ran until his retirement. Ed loved fishing, golfing and taking driving trips all over New England with his family. Ed was a volunteer for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in support of his sons endeavors during the 1970s and 80s. Ed is survived by his loving wife Emily, his sons Frederick S. (Monique) of Mt. Kisco, NY; James E. (Lisa) of Canton, GA and Mark E. of Darien, CT. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a multitude of siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien. In honor of Eds Scottish and Irish heritage, bagpipes will accompany.
