Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
JOSEPH JAMES PERTICONE JR, a longtime resident of Darien, died December 7th with his four daughters by his side following a short but courageous battle against stomach cancer. He was 67 years old.
Born on June 20th, 1953 in Baltimore, Maryland, Joe was the son of the late Joseph James Perticone and Mary Catherine (Dougherty). He is survived by his beloved daughters Lacey, Lexie, Hollis and Isabelle. Always a brilliant mind, voracious reader, and gifted athlete, Joe graduated from Loyola Blakefield in Baltimore, Maryland. Joe went on to graduate from Princeton University where he was a member of The Cottage Club, rugby and football team. A Municipal Bond Salesman for 45 years, Joe worked at Bankers Trust, Kidder Peabody, Lehman Brothers and most recently Stifel Nicolaus. Joe was a member of St. John Church in Darien and a longstanding member of Wee Burn Country Club.
A true lover of the arts, nature, and athletics, Joe spent the better part of his life listening to symphonies by Bach, reading novels by Elena Ferrante, experiencing the quiet early mornings at the Met, swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, and gardening in his backyard. A frequent fixture at the Stamford Twin Rinks and lacrosse fields throughout New England, Joe will be remembered for his magnetic warmth, larger than life smile, well-honed golf game, iconic Harry Potter glasses, and most importantly his unwavering devotion to his daughters. Joe’s greatest joy in life was attending their every sporting event – fully immersed in the game, standing, cheering, and smiling in the corner of every rink and field up and down the east coast.
Joe is survived by his sister Margaret Brennan and her husband Tom, his brother Michael Perticone, and his sister Mary Determan and her husband George of Baltimore, Maryland. Additionally, he leaves behind 4 nieces and 11 nephews. He is predeceased by his son Joseph James Perticone III, his father Joseph James Perticone, his mother Mary Catherine Perticone, his sister Maureen Wenker, and his nephew John Kenealy Brennan.
A small private service and burial will be held for family on Friday, December 18th. His family plans to host a Celebration of Life in the summer when gathering restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Debbie’s Dream in Joe’s honor, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing funding for research and raising awareness about stomach cancer (details below) or Loyola Blakefield, his high school alma mater (details below).
