Obituary of Marguerite J. Benedict Lundberg

Mrs. Marguerite Joan Benedict Lundberg of New Canaan, CT died on Saturday, May 17, 2008. She was the beloved wife of Carl Eric Lundberg. They were married 71 years ago in St. Mark's Church, New Canaan. A native New Canaanite, she was born on January 29, 1914. She attended local schools, Simmons College, Katharine Gibbs School and held several secretarial positions in New York City. She was a life-long member of St. Mark's Church and was a one-time secretary to Rev. Michael R. Barton. She sang in the choir and was active at Mayfair and other church activities. She was a member and past officer of the Hannah Benedict Chapter of the D.A.R. and she was a descendant of Hannah Benedict Carter for whom the chapter is named. Her ancestors were among the earliest settlers of Canaan Parish, now New Canaan, having settled there in the early 1700's. She was a board member of the New Canaan Visiting Nurse Association, V.N.A. Thrift Shop member for several years and was a long-time member of the New Canaan Historical Society. An active member and past officer of the Southern Fairfield County Simmons Alumnae Club, she also participated in the New Canaan branch of the Red Cross, the New Canaan Women's Republican Club, P.T. A. Parents Council, the Garden Center and other volunteer organizations. She and her husband were charter members of the Country Club of Darien. Mr. and Mrs. Lundberg traveled widely visiting all 50 states and many countries of the world. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Theodore Eric Lundberg of New Canaan and Carl David Lundberg of New Fairfield, CT. Another son, William Benedict Lundberg died in infancy. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Audrey Joan Heffermehl of Brookfield, CT and Katherine Irene Wheeler of Newtown, CT; and a grandson, Matthew Eric Lundberg of Washington, DC; three great grandsons and many nieces and nephews. Her brother, Theodore William Benedict of Chapel Hill, NC, also survives. A service will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge, New Canaan on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 11:00 AM. A private family interment will be held at Lakeview Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been made with the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien.
