Obituary of Lorenzo Salvatore
Please share a memory of Lorenzo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lorenzo Salvatore, former long-time resident of Darien, died last week after a brief illness. Born in Rapino, Italy, Lorenzo grew up on the family farm. In 1956, he decided to join other members of his family in America. He booked passage on the ill-fated final voyage of the Andrea Doria and arrived on the shores of the United States via the crippled Stockholm.
Lorenzo settled in Darien and became a machinist in the tool and dye industry. He taught himself the advanced mathematics necessary to advance his career and was in charge of quality control at Torq-Master when he retired.
During his retirement, he enjoyed watching the Yankees, drinking Dunkin Donuts coffee, growing vegetables in his garden, and doting on his grandchildren near and far.
Lorenzo is survived by his wife, Lorraine, his son, Larry, and wife Mandy, their children, Emma, Katherine, and Jack. He is also survived by three daughters: Cherub Beard and husband Merlin, their children, Daniel, Andrew, and Sophie, Susie Flaherty and her husband, Craig, their children Pace and Wade, and Robin Salvatore and Amy Yost. He is also survived by his sister, Rosa Manzi and her children Carmine and Dominic and their families and also several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
There will be a private burial at Spring Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please enjoy the sunshine and fresh picked garden tomatoes this summer. www.lawrencefuneralhome.com
