Obituary of James Shand

James L.P. "Jim" Shand was born in Staten Island, New York on September 4th, 1957. A lifelong athlete, he served as captain of the Susan B. Wagner High School football team for three years, and attended Wagner College on a full athletic scholarship, where he was again elected captain of the football team. He was the first member of his family to graduate from college. He lived in Darien, Connecticut for 28 years, where he was an active member of Woodway Country Club. Jim was a devoted husband to his loving wife Janice for more than 30 years, and adored by his son James, 28, and daughter Julia, 25. He was a beloved husband and father, respected colleague, loyal friend, brother, uncle, and son. Jim led by example, and possessed a quiet strength that inspired great loyalty in those around him. A collector of fine wines and a talented cook, he lived an extremely active life and especially loved to golf and ski with his family. After graduating from Wagner College in 1979, Jim worked at Chapdelaine and Tullet Prebon in Lower Manhattan, where he worked for 25 years and eventually served as Managing Director and Head of U.S. Agencies. He is survived by his wife Janice, son James Philip, and daughter Julia. He is also survived by his brother Daniel Pieszchala, of New Jersey, and his father Joseph Pieszchala of Florida. The family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1864 Post Road, Darien on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
