Pietro Fiorita, a resident of Darien since 1976, died in his home on Sunday, September 13th surrounded by his family. Pietro was born February 9, 1929 in Rose, Cosenza, Italy. He married Anna Concetta Leone on November 5, 1950 in Italy, and was married to her for over 60 years. In Italy is where they had their first son, Angelo. Pietro spent years in Venezuela, having left Italy to find work after the war. There they had their three daughters, Sarina, Carla and Viola. Pietro and his wife came to the United States and settled in Danielson, CT on July 27, 1968, where they worked as pasta makers. In Connecticut is where they had their youngest son, Paul. They came to America to build a better life for their family. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna, his parents Angelo and Carolina Fiorita, and siblings Michelle, Dora and Rosaria. Pietro is survived by his son Angelo Fiorita and his wife, Carmen Bires, Angelo's children, Krisanne and her husband, Marc Faubel, Nadia, Peter Angelo and Marysa Fiorita, his daughter Sarina Fiorita and her daughter Jessica Gleason, his daughter Carla and her husband, Peter Catanzaro and their children Peter, Cristina and Anna, daughter Viola and her husband, TJ Koproski and their daughters Isabella and Kayla, and his son Paul and his wife, Missy Fiorita and their children Emma, Matthew, John and Lila. Also survived by his siblings, Umulo and wife Dora of Rose, Italy, Paolo and wife Maria of Adelaide, Australia, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Pietro served for two years in the Italian military when he was 18, traveling throughout Italy. When he arrived in the states he worked in masonry, building up properties all over the New Haven area. Pietro worked for over 25 years as a mason for the Town of Greenwich. He was a member of Society Figli di Rose, where he gathered with all of his friends who were also decedents of Rose, Italy. Pietro and Anna arrived in the states with a large family, and very little. With hard work and dedication they were able to make a life for themselves in Darien, CT. One of Pietro's greatest joys in life was sharing recipes and traditions from Italy. Under his guidance, all of his children and grandchildren would gather throughout the year to make homemade wine, soppressata and tomato sauce, "gravy." He took great pride in his homemade wine, and it would always be the first thing he offered when you sat at his table. He was often found tending their extensive garden, reminiscent of his life in Italy. There was always an abundance of fresh food that would feed family and friends throughout the year. Calling hours will be at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home at 2119 Post Road in Darien, CT on Thursday, September 17th from 4:00-8:00pm, with a service to follow Friday, September 18th at St. John's Church at 1986 Post Road, in Darien at 10:00 am.
