Obituary of Marilyn Alice Winters Papsun
Marilyn Alice Winters Papsun died peaceably of natural causes at ninety years old at her Darien home on June 20, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Marilyn was born in Stamford, Connecticut on May 16, 1925. Her predeceased parents were Rose Kiggins Winters and Hugh Winters. Marilyn married Andrew Paul Papsun on October 23, 1948 at St. John's Church in Stamford. Andrew built their home in Darien from the ground up, and it was her home for over 65 years. Andrew passed away July 5, 2000. They had three children Laura Papsun Brecht (William) of Wildomar, California, Andrew Hugh Papsun (Joan) of West Norwalk, Connecticut, and Suzanne Alice Papsun of Darien.
Marilyn had four grandchildren, Sarah Winters Papsun of Greenwich, Andrew John Papsun (Kate) of Ellington, Connecticut, Vanessa Brecht Gibson (Reid) of Murrieta, California, and Audrey Brecht Moran (David) of Okinawa, Japan. Marilyn had two great granddaughters, Piper Elle Gibson, Maggie Jean Moran, and a third great granddaughter Daisy Jo Moran is due to arrive in August.
Marilyn graduated from St. John's School and Sacred Heart Academy and Merrill's Business College, all in Stamford. She worked at Pitney Bowes in the Engineering Dept. She was a Den Leader for Cub Scouts, and an avid supporter of Darien Little League, Babe Ruth League, Darien Lassie League, and Middlesex Junior High and Darien High School sport teams.
Marilyn was an Elections Official for Darien voting precincts in local, state, and national elections. Marilyn was the longest serving member of the Darien Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, as a member for more than 66 years. She was active with her husband Andrew in the Darien Fire Department Building Fund Drive for the construction of the DFD at 848 Post Road. She marched in parades representing the DFD in town and around Connecticut.
Marilyn is survived by her sister Beth Bongo of Danbury, and her other siblings predeceased her. They were Hugh Winters of New Canaan, Kate Harrington of Yorba Linda, CA., Patricia Donnelly of Norwalk, and Joan Boshka of Stamford.
Interment will be private and a Memorial Service will be held at St. Thomas More Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien, CT 06820 on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 10 am with a celebration of life to follow. There will be no viewing, but arrangements are being made by Edward Lawrence Funeral Home of Darien. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to TheSundayMass.org at Passionist Communications, P.O.
