Obituary of Rose Marie Brown

Rose Marie Brown, a resident of Stamford, CT and a former long-time resident of Darien, CT, passed away in her sleep on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Edgehill in Stamford. Born on April 15, 1919 in Suffolk, VA, she was the daughter of the late Milton T. Elliott III and Rosa Marie (Bruce) Elliott. She was 95. Rose Marie attended Simmons College (Virginia) and attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. Rose Marie was crowned Miss Virginia and won 4th runner-up in the 1939 Miss America pageant. She loved her family, the theater, dance and song, and acted on Broadway in the early 40's appearing in One Touch of Venus with Mary Martin and Annie Get Your Gun with Ethel Merman and Bert Lahr and a host of other productions. Her love of the theater lasted her entire life, seeing almost every production on Broadway. She was a long-time member of Wee Burn Country Club and a parishioner of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Rose Marie is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Brown and his wife Laura of Norwalk, CT; Joshua Brown and his wife Patricia of Henniker, NH; two grandchildren, Charlotte Marie Rajewski and her husband Ryan of Venice Beach, CA; John R. Brown who is currently serving with the U.S. Army, and two great-grandchildren, Cody and Makayla Meier of Newtown, CT. She was predeceased by her husband W. Donald Brown in 1999 and a brother Bruce Elliott. Rose Marie was devoted her family and she loved and adored all the friends she made in Darien and at Wee Burn. Services will be private.
