Obituary of Sibyl E. Denton
Please share a memory of Sibyl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
"Well done, good and faithful servant...enter into the joy of your Lord." Sibyl went to be with the Lord on September 18, 2022 after a brief stay at Norwalk Hospital.
Sibyl was born in Bickersteth, Jamaica, the third of Hylton and Dora Denton's five children. Sibyl spent her childhood years on the countryside of Jamaica enjoying all kinds of outdoor activities with her siblings, like climbing trees and wading through small ponds. After graduating high school, she worked at Sheffield & Co. in Kingston, JA for many years in the accounting department.
In the 1960s, Sibyl migrated to the United States and settled in Stamford, CT, where she worked at Pitney Bowes for more than 30 years as an administrative assistant. Sibyl later retired and moved to Orlando, FL, where she lived for several years before moving back to Norwalk, CT, to assist with caring for her eldest sister and brother-in-law. She eventually would visit and stay with many family members across Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina, but she always returned to home base in Norwalk.
Sibyl loved her family and everyone adored "Aunt Sibyl!" Anywhere she went, people were drawn to her warm spirit and quick wit. Sibyl loved travelling - especially cruising - and was always up for any adventure whether grocery shopping or Disney World. She enjoyed crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, and watching cooking shows – always hoping to recreate every meal that she saw.
Sibyl adored spending time with family. Though she never had children of her own, Sibyl had a hand in raising dozens of nieces and nephews and her influence spanned across multiple generations, the youngest of which still stops by her room daily to say, "Goodnight Aunt Sibyl!"
Services will be held Saturday, October 22nd at 11 a.m. in the chapel at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1864 Post Road, Darien CT, followed by interment at Spring Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requests that you please direct memorial gifts to St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
