To the Mitchell family...I am saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Mitchell. As I do occasionally, I scan the internet looking for connections to my dad and his service in the US Navy in WWII. I ran across the article of Mr. Mitchell's vintage plane ride 2 years ago. Further digging and I discovered that Mr. Mitchell had just recently passed away. My dad served on the YMS-347 for it's entire Atlantic deployment from the summer of 1943 through the end of the war in Europe. So, Mr. Mitchell and my father were shipmates on the YMS-347. Several years ago, I sent a commissioning photo that has been posted on NAVSOURCE, along with the deployment papers for the ship's European action.
