I met Jim at the Westport Series Road Races. I lived in Stamford, and Jim lived in Darien. We decided to train together at the Darien High School track. We ran many workouts together, pushing ourselves. He and I improved our running and times. God Bless you, Jim. ~ Bill Pidhirny

I met Jim in 1966, just after I had graduated high school and Jim had returned from the Air Force.I had competed in track and cross-country in highschool, but was inexperienced.
Jim advised me on various aspects of distance running, including training methods and shoes. During that summer and subsequent summers, when I was home from college, several of my friends and I trained and raced with Jim. We all benefited from his knowledge of distance running. In addition to his coaching at Darien High School, Jim advised many other young runners over a number of years. Jim continued to be a friend to many, and an important part of the Fairfield County track and distance running community for many years.

At the time of the Memorial Day weekend of 1971 I was in the army and stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
I was due to be released from service that next week. I had no scheduled duties that weekend, so I drove back to Connecticut
in order to compete in the Monday five mile race in Greenwich. Jim was intrersted in watching the race, so we went together.
I had t o drive back to North Carolina on Tuesday to process out. Jim was interested visiting the south again, so we went together. Tuesday was 12 hours of travel. Wednesday we ran in the heat, the humidity, and accompanied by insects. Jim
was not happy. Thursday and Friday runs were much better. We ran with two high school seniors whom I had befreinded
that spring. They were much impressed with Jim and inivited him to their high school geraduation Saturday. He attended.
All four of us ran again Sunday and Monday. Jim and I drove back to Connecticut
on Tueday.
