Obituary of Moosa Salman

Moosa Salman, a resident of Darien, CT for 61 years, left this Earth on June 18, 2023, at home with his family after a long illness. He was 95 years old and lived an eventful and happy life. Born in Amara, Iraq, his family, of necessity, migrated to Iran in 1943, where young Moosa worked as a contractor providing labor for the U.S. Lend Lease Program during World War II. In 1946 he moved to Tehran to work on the planning and building of the American Embassy. In 1949 he was sponsored for immigration to the United States, realizing a life-long dream. He was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps in 1951 and fought in Korea. As a result, he was proud to achieve full citizenship without the ten-year wait. Upon military release in 1953, he continued his education under the G.I. Bill of Rights, and graduated from the Baruch School of Business at CCNY. Working by day and attending classes at night, he began a career on Wall Street at E. F. Hutton, where he initiated a Stock Purchase Plan for corporate employees. He retired at age 78, working from home for many years. His life was centered on his family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lois Przybylowicz, sons Mark (wife Sarah) of Seattle, and David of Darien, and three grandchildren, Benjamin, Jonathan, Catherine, and great-grandson Kelly of Seattle. His life was enriched by his love of Beethoven, Mozart and Schubert, and his life-long hobby of painting. Of late years, he enjoyed writing memoirs of his Jewish childhood in the Middle East, inspired by his membership in the New Canaan Library Memoir Group. Moosa's memoirs will be published by his family. In 2018 Moosa self-published "Goodbye, Mr. Taxman". Moosa was laid to rest on June 28, 2023 in Edgartown, MA on his beloved island of Martha's Vineyard, with full military honors, prayers and eulogy.
