Obituary of Jeffrey Michael Tauber

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Jeffrey Michael Tauber from complications from Alzheimer’s. Jeff was the son of Vincent Astor Tauber and Ruth Wall Tauber.  He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 29, 1945.  He was 78 years old. He is predeceased by his wife, Patricia Williams Tauber.

Jeff moved quite a bit as a child, as his father worked for IBM.  They eventually settled in New Canaan, CT, where Jeff attended Fairfield Prep. He was a track athlete and this love of running lead to decades of marathons all over the United States and Europe, totaling over thirty races. During high school he delivered newspapers on weekends from the back seat of his VW Bug--the same car he brought with him to Boston College, where he graduated in 1966 with a BS in Finance and was a member of the ROTC. In that same VW Bug, he picked up Patricia “Trish” Williams who later became his wife. They moved to Darien in 1972.

He served as a First Lieutenant at Selfridge Airforce Base, in Mt Clemens Michigan from 1968-1970. Until 1973 he remained in the US Army Reserve, Air Defense Artillery and received an Army Commendation Medal and a National Defense Service Medal.

He began his career in Finance at Chase Manhattan Bank in 1970. He later moved to Kidder, Peabody & Co, where he was branch manager and ran the syndicate. He remained there through the sale of Kidder Peabody to General Electric, then to PaineWebber and finally UBS where he retired in 2017 after many years in private equity. He still called himself a “stockbroker” till retirement.

In 1982, Jeff and his family joined Noroton Yacht Club where he rekindled his childhood love of sailing and passed it onto his two kids. He sailed competitively in the Sonar class. His grandchildren also continue that love for sailing as members of American Yacht Club and Noroton Yacht Club. Jeff also loved cigars, traveling and spending time with his family.

In 2001, to shake things up a bit, he joined his son at the Burning Man Festival in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. There he volunteered for a week with the Black Rock Rangers and rode around with the founder of Burning Man, doing God knows what. His “secrets” die with him.

Jeff was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and colleague. He is survived by his daughter Deborah Tauber, son Mike Tauber, as well as three grandchildren, Wyatt Singh-Tauber, Rohwan Singh-Tauber and Charlotte Tauber.

A memorial service will be held in early 2024. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Jeff’s name to Darien’s Post 53 and the Darien Police Foundation.
