Obituary of Rose Irma Gesualdi

Please share a memory of Rose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Rose Irma Gesualdi, of Stamford, CT, long time resident of Darien, CT, and Boca Raton, FL, passed away on October 12, 2024. She was 83 years old. Rose Irma was born on July 2, 1941, in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, to Mary (Sis) and Isaac Batten. At age 18, an adventurous Rose traveled to Stamford, CT, to visit friends. It was there that she met the love of her life, Sam Gesualdi, at a YMCA dance. They married and had four children. Sam, who immigrated from Italy, at age 16, founded Gesualdi Construction, and Rose was instrumental in the early years with office duties.

One of Rose’s passions was travel. A highlight for her and her family was a summer trip to Tuscany, Italy. The grandchildren were young, but it is a trip they remember today.

Rose was also an avid reader, golfer, and devout Catholic, never missing a weekly Mass. She was a member of Tamarack Country Club in Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton Resort and Country Club in Boca Raton, FL; and St. Thomas More Parish in Darien, CT.

Rose was happiest at family gatherings, especially weekly Sunday night dinners. Her family looked forward to her delicious dinners, and her recipes have been passed down to her grandchildren.

Rose also never missed any of her children’s sporting events. She continued this tradition with her grandchildren who attended schools in Darien, Wilton, and Stamford. She even hosted pasta dinners for her grandchildren’s sports teams each season!

In Rose’s final weeks and days, all of her children and grandchildren and their spouses, great grandchildren, and sisters from Nova Scotia were able to spend precious, quality time with her. Rose was predeceased by her parents, Mary (sis) and Isaac Batten, brother Anthony Batten, and daughter Angela Marie DiPilato. Rose is survived by her husband Sam Gesualdi, her children Louis Gesualdi (Heather), Anthony Gesualdi, Maria Brown (David), three sisters, Joanne MacDonald, Denice Peori, Patricia Theriault, one brother, Isaac Batten, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Mass will be held on Tuesday October 22, at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas More Parish, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien CT 06820.  Entombment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.  Donations may be made to the Bennett Cancer Center.
