I was not fortunate to know Jerry as a younger man, however I was greatly blessed to know him as the kind and thoughtful person he was in his final years. Conversations with Jerry were always deeply rooted in a wealth of academic knowledge. Yet his soul was grounded in the idea of wishing the best for everyone around him and would always take the time to offer his wisdom with the only motivation being that you become a better person for it. Jerry and I had much in common and yet expressed very different perspectives on how that came to be. He was never too large to consider alternate paths and the greatest compliment you could receive was when he would say, “I’ll have to think about that”. Jerry wanted to spend his later years developing the art of fine woodworking, and when his sight was compromised making that no longer a possibility, he was never angry or bitter for it. He would simply find a new way to find humor and joy in his own life and most importantly in the lives of everyone around him. All Jerry wanted was for those around him to be the best and happy they could be. In his honor and tribute I will spend the rest of my years attempting to do just that. Be well my friend. I will see you on the other side! Jon
