Obituary of Dorothy Helen Saverine

Dorothy (Dot) Helen Saverine, age 89, of Darien, CT, entered into rest on Friday, December 11th, after a short but courageous battle against COVID-19 pneumonia. Born in Darien on 11/11/1931, Dot was predeceased by her parents Sabato (Sal) Saverine and Lilian Cammarota Saverine. A 1949 graduate of Darien High School, Dot worked in the bank and at Royal Typewriter. She spent most of her working life as the Office Assistant/Manager at Acme Electro-plating, in Stamford, CT, retiring at age 70. Dot will be remembered for her affectionate smile and love for laughter. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother first and foremost. She treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. Whether it was knitting, embroidery, crocheting, or cross-stitch, Dot was gifted with a talent to create beautiful needlecrafts. Dot was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed cheering on her favorite teams and players in many sports. She was an expert at keeping up with the latest standings, scores, and the sports media. When she wasn’t busy with that, she found pleasure in making gravy and meatballs for our family and caring for her many plants, all while listening to her favorite music. She was the beloved mother of Debra Carella and Ken Carella and his wife Margaret, cherished grandmother of Kim Kelly (Austin), Gregory Farenga (Liz), Jeff Carella (Hannah), and Tricia Farenga. She is survived by her brother Charles Saverine, sister Ann Calve, both of Darien, CT, and sister Joyce Mauro of Buford, GA. She cherished many of her dear nieces, nephews, and their precious children. She will be dearly missed by everyone who loved and knew her. There will be a private family memorial mass at St. John's church.
