Obituary of Philip R. Roberts

Philip R. Roberts recently of Norwalk passed away peacefully at home October 25th at the age of 79. Born in Philadelphia to Melville Parker Roberts Sr. and Marguerite Reimann Roberts, he grew up in Glenbrook and attended Stamford High School. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout as a teenager and served in the Korean conflict as an Army medic based in France. After his honorable discharge, he attended the University of Connecticut and graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration. He began his career with the Shepard Insurance Agency in Stamford and soon after founded Cushing & Roberts Insurance. He sold his business to Shoff Darby Insurance in 1999 and continued working for them until 2007.
He settled in the Pine Point Association of Rowayton and was an avid boater, paddleball player and beloved neighbor.
He is survived by his longtime love Karen Hurley, his brother Dr. Melville P. Roberts Jr., niece Julia Roberts, and nephews Melville Parker Roberts III and Erik Emerson Roberts. He was known as "Uncle Phil" not only to his seven great-nieces and nephews, but to numerous others he "adopted" or were adopted by him.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, November 2nd at the United Church of Rowayton with a reception immediately following at the church.
