Obituary of Frederick J. Santarella

Frederick J Santarella, 73, a longtime resident of Darien and a native of Norwalk passed away on June 30, 2017. He was born March 24, 1944 to Carmine and Mary (LaMalfa) Santarella. Fred graduated from Norwalk High School in 1962 where he was a member of the baseball team and captain of the basketball team. He then earned a BA in English from the University of Hartford. Fred married Linda Saverine on October 3, 1970. They raised their beloved children Stacey and Daniel in Darien. Mr. Santarella coached Daniel and his teammates for several seasons of baseball and basketball. Fred enjoyed sports and continued to play softball with the Aces in Norwalk for many years. He also enjoyed golfing. Fred had a wonderful sense of humor and loved comedy of any kind. He immensely enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Santarella ran a home improvements business in Darien for 20 years. He also worked for Wagner Swimming Pools in Darien and A&D Quality Roofing in Norwalk. Mr. Santarella is survived by his wife Linda and son Daniel of Darien, son-in-law Brian Hickey and grandchildren Sean and Evangeline of Valhalla, NY, brother Daniel Santarella and his wife Patty of Norwalk, nephew Scott(Kathy) Santarella of Westport and niece Dana(Kevin) Morton of Norwalk. He is predeceased by his daughter Stacey. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 4:00 - 6:00pm at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home located at 2119 Boston Post Rd., Darien, CT 06820. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 12:00 PM at St. John's Church1986 Post Road in Darien. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
