Helene Marlowe, as she was known professionally in the 1930s, was the first serious love of Gene Kelly. Many Kelly scholars would have loved to interview her about their time together, and how her life unfolded thereafter. (Their relationship is discussed in Clive Hirschhorn's biography, Gene Kelly, published 1975.) As a Kelly scholar, I am most grateful for the information included in this obituary. She certainly was an amazing person who led an amazingly full life where she was obviously a mentor to others. How I wish I could have known her instead of just known of her.

Many childhood memories of Mrs. Hall, spending time at her house in Darien with Mr and Mrs. She took me to my first visit at Sak's Fifth Avenue in NYC to the fur vault! Very exiting! She was a beauty, inside and out. My deepest sympathy to the family.

Helene was an amazing mentor to so many people but personally, she changed my life forever during high school in Darien. She got me involved in so many activities and was a super role model as a woman. She encouraged me in every endeavor. Acting, flying, art, academics. She didn't suffer fools easily and was about as witty as a person can get without being mean or condescending. She was my mother's best friend and we first joined families in 1956 in Hagerstown, MD. When my family was going to relocate from California to Connecticut in 1967 she convinced my parents to try Darien. It wasn't a popular decision for a California brat like me but she was there to meet me and made the transition quite a bit easier. I was so blessed to be her friend and she and Floyd and Bruce will always be family in my heart. I'm kissing the clouds Helene. You are a soul that rises to every occasion to reach out to others and pull them up. Even in death. RIP.
