Obituary of Elizabeth Marie Harmon

Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Elizabeth (Betty) Harmon passed away peacefully at Wellspring Village/Brightview on New Canaan April 28, 2023.

Born in New York City on January 27, 1930, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Rice and Joseph Collins. She grew up in Queens, N.Y. and married Joseph Harmon in 1950. They shared a full and happy life together raising their three children and traveling the world, making a lifetime of memories and friends along the way. She regularly made time for her loved ones, whether through handwritten letters, phone calls, or one of her many social gatherings.

Throughout her life, Elizabeth was always creating art. The style of her work evolved over time starting with realism and moving into the abstract, Sumi-e, and monotypes. She would fondly remember many artist retreats, including the opportunity to study under Wolf Kahn and Mary Beth McKenzie. Her work has been accepted and awarded in juried shows across Connecticut, New York and Florida. Professionally, she pursued her artistic talents as an interior designer and antique dealer.

Elizabeth will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her love of laughter and her graciousness. She loved the many years spent in Rowayton, CT, prior to retiring with Joe in St Augustine, FL. She spent many memorable summers with her family in Lake Rescue, VT, loved swimming, tennis and was always keen for a backyard game of badminton.

Elizabeth will be missed by her family whom she loved tremendously—her three children Peggy (George, who preceded in death) Higgins of Darien, CT, Jim (Ann) Harmon of Southampton, NY, Joanne (Wayne) Bryant of Redding, CT, her grandchildren Sean (Barrett) Higgins, Kelsey Bryant (Charlie Rohrer), Christopher Harmon, and great-grandchildren Parker & Saylor Higgins.

A memorial celebration of Elizabeth's life will be held at a future date in Darien, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association in Elizabeth's memory. Elizabeth will be laid to rest alongside her husband Joe at Union Cemetery, Rowayton, CT.

A special thank you for the love, care and compassion Elizabeth received during her nearly three years at Wellspring Village/Brightview on New Canaan along with the excellent nursing and supportive care provided by Constellation Hospice, Norwalk during her last months.
