Obituary of Janet Maureen Hansen

Janet Maureen Hansen, born on April 7th, 1958 in Saint Petersburg, FL; daughter of John and Carole Hansen of Darien, CT, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2011. She is survived by her two sons, Robert Flandreau, Jr. and Alan Flandreau both of Darien, her former husband, Robert Flandreau, Sr. of Florida; three sisters Deena Esteban of Woodbridge, VA; Donna Santoro of Durham, CT; Sheila Rupp of Stamford, CT; her nephews John Esteban of California, Richard Esteban of Virginia, Stephen Santoro of Durham, CT; a niece Laura Santoro also of Durham, CT; her two uncles George Potter of Norwalk and Daniel Hansen of Florida; also of Florida an aunt Diane Hansen and several cousins. After graduating from Darien High School in 1976, Janet attended Southern Connecticut State University where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. After working as a day camp counselor and substitute teacher, Janet’s love and dedication to children led her to open Kidpals Child Care located in Darien. Among her many passions she enjoyed cycling during the warmer months with her friends from the Sound Cyclists, and skiing during the cooler months with the Ski Bears and Riverhills Ski clubs. Although diagnosed with cancer, Janet continued to give of herself devoting much of her free time to help teach handicapped and disabled persons of all ages to learn how to ski through the Vermont Adaptive Ski Organization. Calling hours will be held at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Sunday, August 21, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A memorial mass will be held at Saint Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien on Monday, August 22, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Richard L.
